On Tuesday, January 22, Timberwolf wrestling dualed against Putnam City High School in the North Gym.

If you are new to wrestling, here is how it works: Each match is three periods that are two minutes each. If a wrestler pins his opponent, the match ends. If 15 or fewer points are scored, and the match is a victory by eight points, it is called a major decision. The athletes gain points for different moves such as takedown, escape reversal, near fall, and penalty points. If a team doesn’t have a certain weight class, the team who does have it gets an automatic team point, and this is called a bye, or void.

The first match of the night started with freshman Hayden Brown (113), who pinned his opponent and put points on the board for Norman North. Next, at 126 pounds, Reese Avino won by scoring a major decision over his opponent, 15-3 in his dual, and scored multiple team points.

Dylan Smith, junior, had a longer match that went into the period.  The match was tied at 9-9. Smith’s opponent got one point making the final score of his match, 10-9.
