Asian Culture Club (ACC) held a Lunar New Year sale on Thursday 2/8 and Friday 2/9 at Norman North to share a cultural holiday with Norman North students.
Unlike other ACC events, the Lunar New Year Sale was easily accessible to all of Norman North. Not only was ACC able to share the Lunar New Year with students, but also Asian cuisine.
“This is one of my favorite events mostly because the whole school gets involved, not just members,” said freshman Sophia Zhao.
Zhao said they saw a lot of participation from Norman North students and the sale went better than expected.
This year, ACC sold dumplings, egg rolls, and Asian snacks in the commons. The dumplings and egg rolls were cooked and prepared by club members after school hours.
The preparation process included planning the event, advertising through signs and social media, buying snacks and ingredients, and setting up on the days of the sale.
All of these costs were covered by the end of the first day of sales.
“The after-school hangout was the most fun part I think because I got to spend extra time with the other members that I usually only see at, like, meetings,” senior Joel Koo said.
The presidents of ACC were at the head of planning and organizing the event.
Co-president of ACC Senior Kate Xue says “It’s a lot of fun for our members to get to work together to make the dumplings, cook the food, also help manage the sale, and it’s a good way for us to come together.”
The ACC club members collectively said they felt great about how the sale went.
“This is a good experience, and I’m glad I signed up, ” said Sophomore Alaya Jaffery.
The presidents of ACC said they will be making some changes for the sale next year.
“I think we may sell more variety of snacks and try out different foods,” said Xue.
They brought up the possibility of Asian drinks and fried rice to bring more diverse options to Norman North and make sure people keep coming back for the new options.
