Spooky Spectacular
On Tuesday, October 29th many of North’s clubs and sports teams joined together to put on the annual Spooktacular event hosted by DECA.
Spooktacular allows kids from the Norman community of all ages to trick-or-treat in the safe environment of the school. Students stayed after school or got there early to decorate the doors and classrooms they were assigned by DECA.
Meanwhile, kids were waiting eagerly at the entrances of the school ready to storm the halls. This year the attendance for Spooktacular has increased by 1,000 people since 2017. Therefore, DECA decided to open the CCC doors and extend that area for the kids too. The publications staff provided a treat and a trick with a scary option to their Strange Things display under the grand staircase.
Doors opened at 6pm for Special Ed students and 6:30pm for the community. The kids, all dressed in Halloween costumes, went from room to room saying “trick or treat” for candy. DECA handed out over two thousand of their famous cookies as their treat for the big night.
As the event was winding down, the kids slowly stopped coming into the halls. The groups that helped put on the event cleaned up their rooms and the school was ready to open Wednesday morning. An estimated 4,000 kids attended the event.
Thank you DECA for putting on this event while making it another successful year and making kids happy.
