A clarification regarding the use of the gravel lot was issued in the school’s newsletter on Sept. 8, stating, “The gravel lot is for staff only.”
The clarification was necessitated by parents and students using the lot for pickup and drop-off.
“This has been a standing rule,” said Kennedy Isaac. “There are no signs, but it has been more of a, ‘Okay, yes, we know this is a thing.’ We use this as an overflow parking lot. The students have three parking lots, which is over a thousand spots,” she said.
The more than 1,000 parking spots—located near the Nancy O’Brian building and in front of the school—fill quickly due to the number of students and parents during drop-off and pickup.
“We are instituting this rule for the safety of all students,” Isaac said.
However, even after the notice was released a little more than a week ago, students continue to use the parking spaces for drop-off and pickup.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to keep this rule around and enforced for a while,” she said.
