Q: Can you please state your name and position here at North?

A: My name is Lorenzo Alferos and I’m the freshman principal here at North.

Q: Okay, what made you want to become the freshman principle here at Norman North?

A: I taught primarily freshman as a teacher and I just really enjoyed working with freshmen.

Q: What would be your top priorities in this position?

A: My top priorities are making sure that students transition to high school as soon as possible.

Q: What are your major strengths as a freshman principle?

A: I think one of my major strengths is just my ability to listen. Typically when people are upset or have an issue, I’d rather ask questions then try to give advice.

Q: How would you advise new teachers during their first year on the job?

A: I would say it’s most important to build relationships with students don’t take yourself too seriously. And just make sure that you’re your authentic self in front of kids because if you’re faking it students are going to know.

Q: What do you think should be the main goal of a school principal?

A: I think the main goal should be building a strong relationship with your students, parents with the community, and just making sure that she school experience that students have is positive that they feel safe, and that they’re running on.

Q: How would you describe your leadership style?

A: I would say my leadership style is very collaborative, I don’t believe that making decisions by yourself. I think it’s best to consult other people when you’re making decisions and to get opinions from other people.

Q: What has been your greatest contribution to the school/schools you’ve worked in?

A: My greatest contribution I would say its the connections that I’ve been able to make with the people that I’m working with and working for.

Q: Have you encountered any problems or bumps in the road since you’ve started your position here?

A: I think the most challenging part is just the sheer amount of work that you do. Because we go to a lot of all the extra duties. You know there are parents that need things. So we just need to make sure that we’re available all of the time.

Q: Okay, what’s your favorite thing about North?

A: My favorite thing about North is the students.

Q: How many years have you been working here?

A: It’s my third year here.

Q: Okay, so in your three years of being a principal, what’s the worst experience you’ve had that you can talk about?

A: Truthfully, I wouldn’t say I’ve had like a super horrible experience, I’d say all of my experiences, for the most part, are pretty positive, even if something is challenging I try to look at it as a learning experience.
