North’s short and hectic week culminated during the football game against Owasso at Harve Collins Field in Norman Thursday, Oct. 4, by losing to the Rams 38-7, making the Timberwolves 1-1 in district play.

Friday night lights have dimmed for Norman North, with most of their games being played on a Thursday this year. Early games are new to the Timberwolves, giving them one less day to prepare for their game against the Rams.

Each team’s defense kept both offenses honest on the field. While Norman North let Owasso score 38, they forced the Rams to punt several times and stopped fourth-down conversions on numerous occasions. The Timberwolves’ were excellent against the run as well, forcing the Rams to pass the ball for many of their offensive drives, giving Norman North’s secondary some exposure.

The Timberwolves’ offense struggled throughout the game, scoring only once in 10 drives. While coming out strong with their run game, they were readily stopped at the line of scrimmage for the rest of the night. The Timberwolves offense had trouble passing the ball as well, completing just a few against Owasso’s secondary. Some of these completed passes led to North’s only touchdown near the beginning of the fourth quarter.

While Norman North lost their fourth game of the season and their second district game, they still have a chance to make the playoffs. However, the Timberwolves play Putnam City North next week, a team that has only lost to Tulsa Union so far. PC North is also fighting to keep their spot, knowing they might lose it if they lose to the Timberwolves next Thursday. The stakes are high for both teams, making for an exciting and emotional game.
