North “Rocks” The Moore Outdoor Musical Festival
Saturday 17th, September, The Norman North Band placed top six in the preliminary round. In the finals, they placed fifth against fourteen other schools. First place went to Southmoore, second to Edmond Memorial, third place went to Westmoore, and fourth went to Edmond North with Norman North getting fifth place. In descending order of placement: Putnam City North, Putnam City West, Guthrie, Blanchard, Woodward, Norman High, Harrah, Washington, and Purcell are in final place. The band presented their show titled “Chaos Order,” performing both in preliminary and finals.
From a big fallout in 2020, Norman North made a big comeback this year and got 5th place out of 14 other schools.
Mr. Vanvickle said, “The show takes the audience on a visual and musical journey from a state of chaos to a state of order, featuring the music of Verdi’s Dies Irae, Simon and Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence (more akin to the Disturbed version) and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.”
A quote from a band member who participated in this event, Elizabeth Yue, described it as “a full-day experience packed with lots of fun. For it being my competition, it was a great start.”
The band and color guard have been preparing and have been working hard for the competition since the summer of 2022. They performed at preliminary at 2:15 PM, and finals at 9:15 PM. Be sure to expect great things from North’s band in the future!
