Developing Excellence at North (DEN) is Norman North’s student council. Students in DEN are involved in planning and leading events such as Homecoming and Semi-Formal. DEN also leads Spirit Weeks, Assemblies, Lunch on the Lawn, and other memorable activities. DEN also represents the student body in meetings and the Academic Council. There are three advisors for this group, Mr. Boese, Mr. Steumky, and Mr. Curry.

DEN is made up of elected positions and faculty-appointed positions. The elected positions include an Executive Council of a  President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. There are also Senators from the Freshman to Senior classes. Members of DEN can also apply to be Committee Chair through an application process. To apply for executive positions you must already be a member of DEN. Committee Chair applications are due on March 4th, and interviews will take place on March 21. Senator applications are due on March 28th. Class elections will take place on April 7th.

Faculty can appoint students to be in the House of Representatives. These students represent different academic and organizational departments for the student body. Each faculty department (for instance, the Fine Arts Department) can nominate 1-2 students to represent them.

For more information visit the DEN website, or contact Mr. Boese in C201 ([email protected]) or Mr. Steumky in C207 ([email protected]). DEN “encourages every student to look for ways to get involved in Developing Excellence at North.”

As Mr. Steumky, an advisor said “Students should join DEN if they want to learn how to be applicable leaders… Ultimately leaders and complainers are the same people, they both can identify problems- but leaders make a plan to fix the problem. DEN helps students learn to be leaders and gives [them] the ability to represent the student body.”
