One of our very own librarians, Molly Dettmann is the winner of the 2021 OKSL Technology in Education Award. The purpose of this award is to honor an Oklahoma school librarian where technology integration is a vital component of their teaching. Dettmann will be honored with an award at the OKSTE (Oklahoma Society for Technology in Education)  General Session. She will also be honored at the Brown Brothers author Party also held at the same place.

Mrs. Dettmann has been a librarian for 8 years total, but this is her 4th year to be a school librarian, she was at the Public Library for 4 years prior to coming to Norman North. Mrs. Dettmann has also won the New Librarian award in the past which is for librarians with 5 or less years of experience.

Mrs. Dettmann does a lot of classes using maker space. She creates lesson plans and then has different classes come in and then she teaches them the lessons she makes. Dettmann has also won almost $10,000 worth of technology and maker space materials which she has added to the library.

I asked Mrs. Dettmann if winning this award has inspired her to continue adding technology to the library and continue to teach with it and she said, “Yes absolutely, I want to keep adding technology,” Dettmann says, “I want to give everyone access to it in a public place.” Mrs. Dettmann plans to continue with the same lessons.
