On the Norman North newsletter, there was a flier about BRIDGE, which stands for building research and investment in developing the next generation. BRIDGE is one of OU’s cancer research programs, and it’s for sophomores and juniors entering junior and senior years.
OU has a health center for students who are interested in healthcare and/or biomedical-based jobs. According to OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, the center began in June 30, 2011 and started to see patients June 16, 2025.
BRIDGE is a summer program for the first weeks, June 1 to July 24. It is 24 hours per week, and students who participate get paid $10 an hour. The program is a hands-on training and research experiment along with mentorship. Working with others in teams or groups for collaboration, and other skills you might use in the field. Students will not get any college credit for the program.
“We are looking for students with a passion for healthcare or research careers and thoughtful answers to the application questions,” Amy Lyons-Ketchum,the Sr. Project Coordinator, said. “It is also very important that candidates have no conflicts with our summer schedule.”
The program only accepts five students every summer. Applications for BRIDGE will close on February 28, 2026. The application asks about your current GPA and what science classes you taken before. They will also ask about your test scores, such as the Pre-ACT, PSAT, and similar tests. The other questions are “what health issue do you think is important, and what do you want to learn?”
