All freshmen and juniors will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), and sophomore students will take the Preliminary American College Testing (PreACT) on Oct. 18.
Seniors will have a virtual learning day and will be expected to check Canvas for assignments.
For freshmen, the PSAT is for practice. For juniors, this test is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which is a national scholarship competition.
Sophomores will be taking the PreACT to practice for the ACT, an admissions exam for many universities.
According to Kim Williams, the Norman North High School testing coordinator, the ACT is taken as a state-mandated graduation requirement. This is in addition to the state tests for science and history, all taken during junior year.
All sophomores who signed up in September to take the PSAT will take it on Oct. 25.
Rosters will be posted just outside the front office by the Timberwolf, this is where students will find their testing classroom.
All that is needed to test for the PSAT is a charged Macbook and a calculator. Students may also bring a pencil, scratch paper and a snack for the break.
All that is needed to test for the PreACT is a #2 pencil and a calculator. Students may also bring scratch paper and a snack for the break.
Technology assistance will be available in the Freshman Academy, as well as in the S100 Hall for students experiencing technical issues.
Updated Oct. 12, 2023 to include additional location for technology assistance.
