Students Performing Unselfish Deeds, also known as SPUD, held their annual Theme Night on September 20. Every year they have a different dress-up theme just for the night.
This theme this year was Jerseys. Theme Night is designed for all SPUD members to find out the theme for SPUD Week, while the rest of the school won’t know until SPUD Week.
SPUD is Norman North’s annual philanthropy committee that raises money for individuals and organizations in need.
All of the SPUD members gathered at the Norman North High School football field from 7-9 p.m. where there was music, pizza, games and many opportunities to build friendships and have fun.
“It’s a lot of work, especially getting ready with October coming and all events.” said sophomore Abby DeLeon. “But we are really excited to have theme night tonight and get to meet all the new committee members especially the new freshman who haven’t been in Spud before. So it’s a lot of work but it pays off.”
Abby DeLeon also said that SPUD is aimed at creating a community while focusing on giving back to people who have impacted them.
“Spud is an amazing week, and as many students would agree, the best of the year,” said DeLeon. “Norman North’s student body comes together and gets behind one another to make SPUD happen, creating a sense of selflessness that spreads like wildfire among our community”
SPUD Week originated in 2001 at Norman North High School. Since then, it has held fundraisers that have raised over $2,592,726 to support students, families, and organizations within the community.
