There is an increased security presence at Norman North High School today after a student reportedly posted a picture posing with a firearm on social media.

No active threat has been made against the school at this time, and the Norman Police Department has identified and located the student who has not entered the school today.

“There’s three SROs on campus and we have patrol outside,” Assistant Principal Barry Whitsell said. These measures are the increased security being added to the building for the day.

Whitsell said that this incident will not change how security is handled in the building from day to day, but the administration will be doubling down on monitoring behavior and the student ID policy.

“We notified the administration building as soon as we found out,” Whitsell said. “District office and the police were all notified simultaneously. The issue was being handled immediately by everybody.”

Head Principal Dr. Kim Garrett issued a statement regarding the situation this morning.

“We greatly appreciate the student who reported the photo to an administrator,” Garrett said. “Remember, if you see something, say something.”
