Now it’s October, students are reading more and checking out books from the library—the most popular books for Norman North students and faculty this year.
We polled Norman North students and faculty members to see which types of books the school community prefers. The most popular book genres among Norman North students seem to be romance and fantasy. Of 22 respondents, Romance was chosen 13 times. Fantasy was a close second, picked 12 times.

Norman North librarian Molly Dettmann said that our library has about 24,000 books. Dettmann says that mystery, thriller, horror, sports, graphic novels/manga, and romance are popular genres she sees getting checked out.
When it comes to fiction and non-fiction, fiction was the most popular; 19 people chose fiction, while only three preferred non-fiction.
According to the National Library of Medicine, people who read fiction can develop social and empathetic skills. Nonfiction readers cultivate empathy and research skills.
