Where There’s Smoke

The Norman Fire Department responded to the alarm Friday afternoon.

On Friday, October 1, at approximately 1:50 pm the fire alarm sounded in the North.  Teachers and students, as well as parents, will be happy to know that the alarms worked excellently, and met the expectations of the district.  This was not a false alarm nor a drill.  The fire department arrived shortly after the alarm began.  A very small, controlled fire was ignited by a construction crew on the south side of the building.  The fire was quickly extinguished, but not before the alarms blared.  All personnel emptied the building safely. The unplanned event gave teachers a chance to tweak their fire escape plans and routes for times when students are present..  Everyone in the building was able to go outside and get some fresh air during the evacuation.  Some teachers carried their class meetings outside and continued working.
