On Tuesday, November 9th, SPUD hosted a kickball tournament for the annual  SPUD Sports event. Teams were formed by friend groups, like cheer or football, and made up of nine people. Each team participated in the double-elimination tournament. Funds raised from the participants and viewers helped SPUD to meet their Push-Day goal of 15k.

At 7 pm everyone met on the softball field as the tournament began. Many of the teams had themed outfits, including the “Michael Scott’s” with suit jackets and shorts, the “Kickball Kweens” with light-up tiaras, and the “No Namers” with senior jerseys. Over the next two hours, teams played intensely. “Winning our first game was awesome,” freshman Matthew Hutchinson, a member of the team “Freshman,” said. Saia Hudgins, sophomore, said her favorite moment was, “When Jordan almost missed catching the ball, but she caught it. She’s the MVP.” Players worked hard to score as many runs as possible in the 10-minutes allotted for each game. The losing team was put in the “losers” bracket, and the winners got to continue on in the tournament. After many games, the ultimate, undefeated winners of the tournament were, “The Island Boys.”
