North dunks the ball.

- London Brammer, Sports Writer

The Norman North varsity boys’ basketball team had a slow start to the season including a loss at the crosstown clash and is looking to bounce back. They recently beat a good Lawton team and a conference opponent Deer Creek 52-42. Important games include round 2 of this year’s cross-town clash against at high on Friday, February 10. North looks to claim victory after an extremely close game last December decided by a last-second go-ahead bucket by High’s Marquis Combs.

North has four more regular season games this year, Tuesday 2/7 at Stillwater, the previously mentioned crosstown clash on 2/10 at High, Tuesday 2/14 against Yukon at home, and at Westmoore Friday 2/17. After Westmoore the playoffs start so make sure to support your team on their journey to State. Standout players in these games include Owen Eshelman, Nate Lancaster, and Ben Moser.

When speaking with senior player Maddox Hamilton, he and the team have addressed the ups and downs, begun to win games, and plan to “make some noise come playoff time.” When asked about his time as a senior Hamilton said “I feel like basketball always challenged me on and off the court. Every day it made me mentally stronger and taught me how to persevere. I’ve enjoyed every minute of time playing for North, but I am proud of the young guys and I feel our program is in good hands.” Maddox also mentioned his coach Kellen Mccoy and commended him as a mentor and for the way he carries the program.
