Today, I got the chance to interview Mrs. Hunter and ask a few questions about being an art teacher at Norman North.
What got you into teaching art? How do you keep that spark alive?
“I knew I wanted to be a teacher in kindergarten, and what made me want to become an art teacher was my Senior year art teacher; they were amazing, and they were that teacher you just wanted to have. He had the best relationship with all the students and got along with them, and I just want to be that teacher who students want. She says that her students’ relationships with her keep that spark alive to continue being a teacher.”
What is your favorite piece you made, and what was the backstory on it?
“15 years ago, I started to make custom costumes, and I was doing so well at it that I started to become hired to jud
ge at conventions. The most favorite piece I made was a goat on PVC pipes that were like 6in tall, and I was on my tippy toes, and I had custom teeth made for it. I spent like 3 months making it, even though I did not enter the competition, I was interviewed by my magazine and won side awards.”
How many awards did you win?
“All in total, I won 13 best in shows, multiple 2nd and 3rd place awards.”
Here are a few pictures that I got from the students in her class.
